Who We AreWe are two independent, non-governmental, Social Development Organizations partnering in Canada and Embu, Kenya. We have charitable status in Canada, Kenya and the United States. A Board of Trustees and Advisors are Located in Kenya and Canada. As well, we currently have some 75+ individuals supporting the project in Canada and about 35 people involved in Embu. This is a collaborative project that twins the city of Toronto with the town of Embu in Kenya. The twinning organizations are Phoenix Community Works Foundation in Toronto and The Acacia Children's Project in Embu, Kenya. Phoenix Community Works Foundation is a registered non profit organization in Canada with over 40 different projects. Most of the projects are located in Canada with a fewer number of projects focused on other countries. They are committed to the concept of a global community, which explains in part their involvement in this project. The members of these two organizations believe that together we can improve the quality of life of a specific group of HIV/AIDS Orphans in the area around Embu, Kenya. The project is structured so that there will be opportunities for an authentic exchange of learning and resources between all those involved rather than a top down development/under-development model of exchange. For this reason the project is non-governmental. Support will be raised from multiple sources with the objectives that the project will have long-term sustainability and inclusive leadership. We are in the process of outreaching to others in Canada, the USA, the UK and Nairobi, Kenya. |
